MAKER WRITERS JOIN ORLANDO
Orlando have finished their debut single, "Just For A Second"- and one of the B-sides features their interview with the Maker's own Simon Price and Taylor Parkes.
The single was produced by Alan Tarney, who has worked on everything from Cliff Richard's "We Don't Talk Anymore" to Pulp's "Disco 2000" and Saint Etienne's "You're In A Bad Way".
It's backed with "Something To Write Home About" and "The Trouble With You",the interview track. Here, the conversation comes out of the left speaker while music comes out of the right one, leaving the listener to choose whether to listen to words, music or both. The music was, unusually, written by Tim and not Dickon.
The single comes out on August 12 on Orlando's own Company Records, through blanco y negro. The photographs for the artwork lured former Smash Hits snapper Eric Watson (famous for his work on early Pet Shop Boys records) out of retirement.
In other Orlando news, they have replaced their drum machine with a live drummer called David and are set to play the London Camden Monarch on June 3,supporting Shakespear's Sister.
Finally, the band's fanclub,Orlando Nation,is up and running from Company Communications,66 Golbourne Road,London W10 5PF. Anyone who writes can get an unedited transcript of Pricey's recent Orlando interview.
